Apple is reportedly planning three new iPad models for the first half of 2027. The lineup will include an entry-level iPad, an OLED iPad Air, and an upgraded iPad Pro. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the updates will bring major improvements across Apple’s tablet range.
The report also suggests Apple has no plans to release new iPads during the second half of 2027. This follows the recent launch of the iPad mini (2026), which features an OLED display and the A20 Pro chip.
The next entry-level iPad is expected to receive a significant hardware upgrade. Apple’s current iPad (2025) launched in March with the A16 chip and 6GB of RAM. However, its limited memory does not support Apple Intelligence.
Its successor will reportedly address this limitation with the A19 chip and 8GB of RAM. Apple’s code has also revealed the N1 networking chip, which supports Wi-Fi 7. Cellular models are expected to feature the C1X modem with sub-6GHz 5G connectivity.
Meanwhile, the iPad Air lineup could receive one of its biggest display upgrades. The iPad Air 11 (2026) and iPad Air 13 (2026) arrived in March with Apple’s M4 chip and 12GB of RAM. However, both models still use 60Hz LCD panels.
Their successors are expected to replace LCD technology with OLED displays. This also supports an earlier report that Samsung Display will supply the panels. Apple has not revealed which processor will power the new models. However, the M5 chip remains a possible option.
The iPad Pro lineup is also expected to receive a notable performance upgrade. The current 11-inch and 13-inch models launched in October 2025 with Apple’s M5 chip. Their successors could introduce vapor chamber cooling to manage heat more effectively.
This cooling system should help the next iPad Pro maintain high performance during demanding tasks. Gurman previously reported that Apple planned to introduce vapor chamber cooling alongside the M6 chip in its 2027 iPad Pro.
Apple has since brought the M6 chip to its 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac. Therefore, its arrival in the next iPad Pro would not be surprising. With these updates, Apple could bring OLED technology to more iPad models. The company is also expected to improve performance and connectivity across its tablet lineup. However, the new models are not expected to arrive before the first half of 2027.
