Chinese automaker BYD sold a record 305,743 fully electric passenger cars in October 2026, exceeding the 262,649 electric vehicles sold across the United States during the entire third quarter.
According to the company’s latest sales figures, BYD’s battery-electric vehicle sales increased 37% year-on-year, marking the first time its monthly sales crossed the 300,000-unit milestone. The company sold 490,168 new energy vehicles in October, including fully electric cars and plug-in hybrids, representing an 11% annual increase.
Meanwhile, US electric vehicle sales reached 262,649 units between July and September, according to Kelley Blue Book estimates. Although this was the strongest quarterly performance in a year, sales declined 39.5% compared with the same period last year.
BYD’s plug-in hybrid sales, however, fell 17% year-on-year to 177,382 units in October. The automaker also exported 170,194 vehicles during the month, more than double its overseas shipments a year earlier, as it continues expanding into international markets.
