Huawei is reportedly launching a new smartphone brand called Osta, with two flagship devices expected to lead its debut. The lineup will include the Osta O1 and Osta O1 Pro, according to two reliable tipsters.
The brand was previously linked to the name Xingmang, which translates to “Starlight” or “Starburst”. However, the latest leaks suggest Osta will be the actual English name. The name will reportedly also appear on the phones’ retail boxes.
Both smartphones are expected to feature different designs. The standard Osta O1 will reportedly have a display curved on all four sides. It will also feature a large circular camera module on the back.
Meanwhile, the Osta O1 Pro will take a different approach with a wider screen. It is tipped to feature narrow bezels and a horizontal camera strip on the rear. The phone will reportedly use a 6.39-inch flat LTPS display with 1.5K resolution and a 16:9.5 aspect ratio.
This display could make the O1 Pro look similar to Huawei’s Pura X View. The device is also expected to arrive in four memory configurations. These include 12GB/256GB, 12GB/512GB, 16GB/512GB, and 16GB/1TB.
According to the leaks, the O1 Pro’s specifications and pricing will match Huawei’s flagship smartphones. This positioning is quite different from earlier reports. Those reports suggested the new brand would focus on mid-range devices powered by Kirin 8-series chipsets.
The latest information instead points towards a premium product lineup. Rising memory prices could also be a factor behind the expected pricing.
There were also questions about Huawei’s plans for wide-screen smartphones. One tipster was asked whether the company would leave this form factor exclusively to Osta. However, the source said wide-screen devices would remain part of Huawei’s main smartphone lineup.
Huawei has not officially announced the Osta brand or confirmed details about its first two smartphones. Their launch dates and other specifications also remain unknown.
