The Tar Heels are getting set to play their second regular season game against Wofford. The Terriers will go into this game 0-1 after losing to Tennessee 90-59, and they’re hoping things can go better against the Tar Heels. As far as things go for the boys in Carolina blue, they are off the heels of an eight-point win over Western Carolina, and people are still buzzing about the lack of a blowout from that game. This will be a good opportunity for UNC to flex any muscles they do have, but will they? We’ll find out soon enough.
The biggest keys to tonight’s game are boring, but they are flow and consistency. On offense, Carolina didn’t move the ball very well against Western Carolina, which made scoring a bit of a challenge. Flow is also relevant when it comes to defense — there were a number of errors made against the Catamounts, but key among them was bad eyes and communication. The Heels will need to play better as a unit, but they also will need to play better for 40 minutes if they want to have the performance that everyone wants them to have.
I am also eager to see what tweaks Michael Malone makes to his lineup combinations tonight. When just his starting lineup was on the court, things were fine, and the same can be said when he had all his bench guys on the floor. But it was when starters were playing with bench players where things were at their worst, so expect Malone to play around with his lineups to see what works and what doesn’t. Truly this will be a season-long experiment, so let’s see what he has in store.
As always, we will be back after the game with post-game analysis and takes. Until then, Go Heels!
