Chelsea were beaten by Sunderland today in an extremely disappointing result for the Blues heading into the international break.
We were all curious to see what manage Xabi Alonso would say about the game, and he gave his view on where his team had gone wrong.

“The game has been really tight, really competitive, not many chances. The goal came from that penalty,” Alonso said.
“We were not creating enough chances in the final third against the low block. We were not controlling and sustaining the attack there.
“You can do it, we spoke and worked. We didn’t do good enough but we worked during the week to control his powers. For sure in a few situations we didn’t do well. Today was going to be tough, a really close game. This team give you so much space and so much of the ball we need to be more precise and patient.”
After a full week off, against the team bottom of the league, who played on Thursday… we simply have to do better.
In other news…
Mike Penders had a good game, and after the match he complained about the penalty which led to the goal he conceded.
Penders’ big moment in the game was an impressive save at the feet of Wilson Isidor – unfortunately it didn’t mean anything for Chelsea in the end.
The introduction of Estevao today was predictable – the player taken off for him
