The Pittsburgh Penguins injury news was not good Monday. For the struggling team that has largely been defensively scattered, they’ll have to integrate a couple of new players into the lineup this week.
The team reported via social media that Evgeni Malkin is out day-to-day with a lower-body injury, and defenseman Kaedan Korczak is also suffering from an LBI. Neither practiced Monday.
The team also downgraded Elmer Soderblom’s injury status from day-to-day to week-to-week.
This season, Malkin is one of the Penguins’ leading scorers. He has six goals and 11 points in 14 games. The other two games he missed were due to illness.
The Penguins acquired Korczak in a trade in June when they parted with Parker Wotherspoon and held back $500,000 of Wotherspoon’s $1 million salary cap hit.
Earlier Monday morning, the team recalled Justin Brazeau from his conditioning assignment with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The team demoted Rutger McGroarty to WBS Sunday evening.
