By Notre Dame made a statement on Saturday, Nov. 7, defeating Miami 31-24 and adding a much-needed signature win to its College Football Playoff resume.
Quarterback CJ Carr potentially had his Heisman Trophy moment, completing 29 of 40 passes for 319 yards with three touchdowns. The Fighting Irish struggled the move the ball on the ground, rushing for 93 yards on 29 carries as a team.
The quarterback play was elite in South Bend, Indiana, with Miami signal-caller Darian Mensah also throwing for three touchdowns with 302 yards. The Hurricanes sorely missed top weapon and Heisman contender Malachi Toney, who underwent surgery earlier this week.
Notre Dame desperately needed this win, as its loss to BYU earlier this season was its lone other shot of earning a ranked win. The Fighting Irish couldn't let another CFP slip away after finishing the season 10-2.

Miami suffers their first loss of the season 31-24 in Notre Dame. The Canes played 1st half like a team shocked without their star player and played second half more like a top team. Disappointing result, but UM has everything they want in front of them. Win ACC. Get Mali back.

Miami-Notre Dame has me pondering this — Who the hell is going to win the Heisman?
Jeremiah Smith is hurt by the Ohio State offense.
Darian Mensah looks incredibly human against Notre Dame.
Malachi Toney is hurt and may miss the rest of the regular season.
