LSU football is working to add a familiar face to the coaching staff. According to a report from CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz, former LSU defensive coordinator Davee Aranda is on the verge of returning to LSU in an "analyst-type role." Per Zenitz, Aranda is currently in Baton Rouge.
Aranda was LSU's defensive coordinator from 2016-19. Under Aranda, the Tigers were consistently among the best defenses in college football and won the national championship in 2019.
After LSU's title run, Baylor hired Aranda as head coach. Aranda enjoyed early success in Waco, leading the Bears to a Big 12 title in 2021. Baylor couldn't sustain the momentum, and Aranda was fired earlier this season after Baylor lost to Kansas. Aranda went 40-40 across seven seasons at Baylor.

Aranda would be a significant addition to LSU's staff. He's one of the most respected defensive minds in the sport, and has been for some time.
Current LSU DC Blake Baker is expected to receive head-coaching interest this offseason, and if Aranda is already on staff, it gives LSU an in-house option for the DC role.
