When will Lamar Jackson come back to the Ravens?

By November 6, 2026

The Baltimore Ravens will face one of their stiffest tests of the 2026 season on Thursday night. They're playing host to the heavyweight Jacksonville Jaguars, who certainly have the look of a team that could represent the AFC in Super Bowl 61 this February. Unfortunately for the Ravens, they'll be fighting an uphill battle with their franchise player out for the matchup.

Two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson will not play against the Jaguars after he hurt his thumb during a loss to the Buffalo Bills last Sunday. In fact, after Jackson underwent surgery for his injured thumb, he's not going to appear in uniform for 4-4 Ravens for a little while. Oof. Jackson's iffy injury status is enough to question his Ravens future, but that's a heavy conversation for another day.

For now: Can the Ravens stay afloat long enough to make bringing back Jackson worth it?

Well, it depends on how long it will take Jackson to recover. The star quarterback is officially out indefinitely, but he could return later in the year. Though some reports have already stated it is unlikely Jackson will return before the end of the regular season. Knowing that, it would probably take a legitimate Ravens playoff push for Baltimore and its talisman to even consider coming back around late December and early January.

Who will start at QB for the Ravens against the Jaguars?

With both Jackson and regular backup Tyler Huntley hurt, expect third-string quarterback Joe Fagnano to play against Jacksonville.
