After police thought Tyler Kolek was a fake NBA player during the New York Knicks championship parade, he’s now calling Taylor Swift out for being a fake fan.
Kolek might not be capable of doing much on the court for the Knicks, but he’s certainly capable of garnering attention off it. The third-year point guard went viral during the Knicks NBA championship parade in June when NYPD officers attempted to corner him, believing he was a rogue fan. And Kolek is going viral again for his Taylor Swift take.
During an NBA 2K TikTok livestream Thursday, Kolek and teammate Deuce McBride were asked, “Who is the fakest celebrity Knicks fan?”
Q “Who’s the fakest celeb fan you’ve seen courtside?”
Tyler Kolek “Maybe Taylor Swift?”
Deuce McBride “I would agree…Swifties not gonna like that answer”

“At the Knicks game, I would say it’s very performative,” Kolek said. “They just want to be seen at the game; they’re not necessarily fans. Maybe Taylor Swift? I don’t know if I’ve seen her at any other games.”
McBride said, “I would agree,” before adding, “Swifties not gonna like that answer.” The realization prompted Kolek to try lessening the blow by noting, “I guess she’s got a lot going on, so she can’t come all the time.” But as Monica McNutt can probably attest to, the damage was already done.
Swift attended Game 4 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, where she became a focal point of the ABC broadcast as the Knicks completed a historic comeback win over the San Antonio Spurs. But before the game started, McNutt was heard on the broadcast asking, “Is that Taylor Swift down there? She’s not a Knicks fan! Get out of here, girl.”
McNutt eventually had to clarify the remark after hearing from Swifties who were quick to point out Swift has lived in New York City and attended games at the Garden during some of the Knicks’ dormant seasons. But the backlash McNutt received didn’t seem to deter Kolek from similarly chiding Swift’s fandom.
The Garden was loaded with “fake” or bandwagon Knicks fans who just wanted to be seen at the scene during their championship run. Even Kirk Herbstreit was sitting courtside for Game 4 at MSG! Taylor Swift was hardly the worst offender.
