Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream came up just short of a WNBA title, falling to the Golden State Valkyries in Game 7 of the WNBA Finals. While it was a hard-fought series, Dave Portnoy wasn’t about to let Reese off the hook as called her performance in the losses “a disaster class.”

The Barstool Sports founder, who is a self-described Caitlin Clark fan, ripped Reese’s performance in the Finals, going as far as to say that she lost the Dream the series.

Dream Falls Short

The Dream took a 2-1 series lead after back-to-back wins in Games 2 and 3, with Reese posting one of the most dominant games of her career in Game 2, scoring 30 points with 16 rebounds. The Valkyries bounced back, however, winning Games 4 and 5. After Atlanta forced a Game 7 with a dominant blowout win in Game 6, Golden State won the deciding game 68-63.

While Reese was dominant to start the series, she struggled in the final four games of the series. And she hasn’t been shy about her frustration since, taking aim at the referees after the loss.

Portnoy isn’t the first to criticize Reese’s play, either. Emmanuel Acho called her “objectively atrocious” during the series.

‘A Total No-Show’

Portnoy started by making his allegiances clear, indicating that he is a “Caitlin Clark stan” so that there was no confusion about his allegiance. He then took aim at Reese for how she acted after the first three games.

“Well, it’s not just about Angel, it’s about the series. And I was watching the entire series intently. I’m a Caitlin Clark stan. I’m a Caitlin Clark fan,” Portnoy said, in a video he posted on X. “They took the 2-1 lead and she’s acting like the series is over now. She is a very loud talker when things are going well.”

He then broke down Reese’s numbers in the Dream’s final three losses as

“Game 7, money on the line, need Angel, 8 points, 3-of-7. In their last 3 losses, she scored 23 points, 7 of 27 from the field. That’s 25%. 8 of 13 from the free-throw line, 13 turnovers. You can sculpt this any way you want. In the last 3 losses that they had, she didn’t show up at all. Not even a little bit. Not even a tiny bit,” Portnoy said.

Portnoy also said Reese shouldn’t be mentioned in the same breath as Clark.

“So you can go around and she made the finals. Congrats. But she lost them the finals. There’s absolutely no other way to extrapolate this. And good season, but before we start putting her in Caitlin Clark’s category, to have 3 games held under 10 and just be a turnover machine, terrible at the line, there’s no other way to look at it. A total disaster class from Angel Reese in the finals,” he continued.

He closed by giving credit to Finals MVP Gabby Williams, who scored 30 points in Game 7.

“On the other side, Gabby Williams, spectacular. If you watch the game, Gabby Williams from the Valkyries, went to UConn, played for the French national team, made every play, demanded the ball, big 3. Congratulations, the MVP. But this was a disaster class for Angel Reese, and you don’t have to be an Angel Reese hater to acknowledge it. She was a disaster in their losses, a total no-show,” Portnoy said.
