Bethesda Officially Unveils The Elder Scrolls 6 Full Name & Release Window

By November 4, 2026

The legendary RPG studio, Bethesda, officially unveiled The Elder Scrolls 6 Sentinel on November 3. A brand-new teaser trailer dropped just before 12:30 PM ET. Consequently, this reveal ended a staggering wait of 3,068 days since the initial E3 2018 teaser. Back then, Bethesda announced the project primarily to soften the blow of its multiplayer title, Fallout 76. Furthermore, the new title confirms a previous hint from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. She had teased the name using eight asterisks. Naturally, fans correctly guessed Sentinel. Meanwhile, a company spokesperson quickly managed expectations. They explicitly stated that it will take some time before Bethesda shares more details.

Exploring the Hammerfell Setting

The new trailer prominently shows an Elder Scroll emerging from the sand. This visual confirms the game takes place in the Hammerfell region near the Alik’r Desert. Specifically, the story centers around Sentinel. This location serves as the capital and largest northwestern city of Hammerfell. Historically, Redguards populate this massive city. Additionally, the trailer features a cryptic prophecy. Yazar, the Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell, delivers a grim message. He says:

The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate.

As a result, players will likely operate directly under Queen Iradne’s rule. However, Bethesda remains silent on whether the neighboring High Rock region will also appear.

Interestingly, the trailer officially dates the prophecy to the Fourth Era, year 206 (E4 206). This timeline places the upcoming RPG exactly five years after the events of Skyrim. Consequently, this short time skip opens exciting possibilities. Players might see returning characters or even cameos from the Dragonborn. Furthermore, in-game characters will likely discuss the major consequences of Skyrim. These conversations should heavily cover the destruction caused by dragons, the ongoing Stormcloak and Empire conflict, and the current status of the Aldmeri Dominion. Just as The Elder Scrolls Online honors Skyrim ahead of its 15th anniversary, Sentinel will properly honor its phenomenal predecessor without acting as a direct sequel.

Bethesda Targeting a 2028 Release Window for The Elder Scrolls 6

Eager fans must still wait a bit longer to play. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier recently took to Bluesky to share a reality check. He stated that the game remains more than two years away. Therefore, developers are targeting a release in 2028 or later. Former publishing head Pete Hines previously noted that active development began around October 2023. This shift followed a long five-year pre-production phase with a skeleton crew. Currently, the development team has pushed past the halfway point. They have successfully completed three years of full production. Meanwhile, they still face over two years of hard work. This timeline perfectly reflects the unpredictable nature of modern AAA game development.

Skyrim approaches its massive 15th anniversary next week on November 11. Shockingly, by January 2, 2027, the time gap between Skyrim and Sentinel will mathematically exceed the massive gap between Skyrim and The Elder Scrolls 2 Daggerfall.
