It has felt like common knowledge that, eventually, Darren Cahill would be parting ways with Jannik Sinner.
The legendary Australian coach has been with the 24-year-old for four years now, and together they won 24 of his 30 ATP titles, including all five of his Grand Slams.
He will retire a legend of the game, but for Jannik Sinner, he must find a way to continue without his great overseer.
Fortunately, it has not taken long for him to formulate a new plan for his future, and it is one being largely celebrated by the tennis community.
After all, Sinner’s decision to hire Magnus Norman as his new coach feels foolproof. Chris Eubanks certainly agrees.
Chris Eubanks reviews Jannik Sinner’s decision to hire Magnus Norman as his new coach
The American pundit was effusive in his praise for this move, simply stating: “I think this is a perfect mix. Like perfect, perfect mix. When I saw it, I go, this makes tons of sense.”
Interestingly, Sinner and Norman were close to partnering back in 2022, when Cahill was hired.
Four years on and finally they have united.
Discussing Cahill’s plans to now retire, Eubanks then noted on the Big T podcast: “To me, I think off the top of my head, who would be a great coach to kind of fill that void? Magnus is perfect.”
He then explained why: “I think Magnus and Darren have different styles in terms of, they’re both very calm, very relaxed, very positive people to be around. But simply by just looking at what Magnus was able to do with Stan [Wawrinka], and how he was able to kind of change some things there. I don’t think that’s gonna be necessarily the same mentality going into Sinner.
“Again, another example of coaches having to adjust, Stan, when Magnus and he started off, struggled a little bit on return, and Magnus comes in, makes some tweaks to the return, and then just got Stan into an absolute physical specimen to where he’s just ploughing through long, consistent rallies, physical exchanges, and that kind of became a hallmark of Stan’s career.
“That’s kind of something Jannik already does.”

Eubanks was particularly interested in how Norman will mesh with Simone Vagnozzi, one of Sinner’s existing and remaining coaches.
He finished by admitting: “Darren Cahill has always said that Simone was a bit more of the technical coach, the guy who, you know, if something is changing on his serve or his fore in a backhand, that’s kind of Simone’s lane, and Darren was more of a tactical and just good vibes, putting him in a great frame of mind.
“I tend to think Magnus will try to kind of not completely copy Darren’s style, but try to fill that void, not go in with too much technical expertise, just kind of say, hey, from a tactical standpoint, this may be something that you do, but I’m really, really excited to see that team do well.
“It’s just gonna be interesting to see if we’re able to see any tactical or technical adjustments with Sinner. I tend to think not, because when he’s healthy, he’s arguably the best player in the world.”
