FBR to Use AI to Detect Tax Fraud and Discrepancies

By October 1, 2026

Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is set to use artificial intelligence (AI) to identify tax fraud, discrepancies, and potential cases of tax evasion as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s tax system.

A state-of-the-art data centre has also been established with support from the World Bank to manage and analyze large volumes of taxpayer information. The system is designed to help authorities process records and identify inconsistencies in financial and tax-related data.

The initiative will allow the FBR to make greater use of data analytics and technology when assessing tax compliance. Information available to the system may include financial records and other relevant taxpayer data, enabling authorities to identify discrepancies that require further examination.

The move is part of broader efforts to modernize Pakistan’s tax administration, improve compliance, and increase the use of digital tools in revenue collection.
