Playoff berths, district championships and places in the record book were all on the line during another eventful week of Houston area high school football. Magnolia continued its turnaround, Langham Creek ended a lengthy postseason drought and Montgomery set up a district title showdown with Huntsville. Meanwhile, Pasadena's Shaun Aguirre and Klein's Carter Lattelle delivered historic performances, and Randle's Landen Williams-Callis closed in on another career milestone. Here are the key takeaways and top performers from Week 10.

Lattelle, Aguirre make history

Pasadena junior Shaun Aguirre and Klein senior Carter Lattelle delivered two performances worthy of a place in the Houston-area record book. Aguirre rushed for 506 yards and seven touchdowns on 35 carries during the Eagles' 58-48 district victory against Dulles on Saturday, averaging 14.3 yards per attempt. His rushing total ranks fifth in Houston high school football history, and he finished just 45 yards shy of the single-game rushing record of 547, set by Morton Ranch's Deion Williams in 2012. His seven touchdowns, meanwhile, are tied with several other players for the second most in a single game. Pasadena (3-6, 1-6) is eliminated from playoff contention, but Aguirre has put together a standout season, nonetheless. He has rushed for 2,174 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Lattelle was nearly perfect during Klein's 71-21 district victory against Klein Collins on Friday, completing 15-of-16 passes for 533 yards and eight touchdowns without an interception. His eight touchdown passes are tied for the third-highest total in Houston high school football history. Lake Creek's Asher Ryan and Atascocita's Corbin Smejkal also accomplished that feat earlier this season. His 533 yards are the ninth-highest total in Houston history. Lattelle has passed for 2,459 yards and 26 touchdowns without an interception for the Bearkats (9-1, 7-1), who clinched the outright District 15-6A title with the win, the first for the program since 1995.

Magnolia turns season around

Magnolia was 1-4 overall and sitting in sixth place in District 15-6A before putting together the four-game winning streak that secured its second consecutive playoff appearance. The latest victory required an 11-point second-half comeback on Thursday against Klein Cain, with the Bulldogs scoring on their final three possessions to prevail with a 37-34 victory. Magnolia (5-4, 5-2) then recovered a late onside kick to finish the job and move above .500 for the first time this season.

The Bulldogs have beaten Klein Oak, Tomball Memorial, Klein Forest and Klein Cain during their turnaround, winning both close games and comfortable ones. Their postseason berth is secure, but Friday's regular-season finale against Tomball still carries substantial weight. Both teams will compete in the Division II bracket, and their meeting at Bulldog Stadium will determine which earns the district's higher seed.

During the win over Klein Cain, senior quarterback Chase Lowery led the charge for the offense. He rushed for 241 yards and a touchdown and passed for 108 yards and another score. Cash Ferrell added three rushing touchdowns.

Langham Creek ends playoff drought

Langham Creek is headed to the playoffs for the first time since 2018 after holding off Cy-Fair for a 56-51 victory on Friday. The Lobos (7-2, 5-1) bounced back from a 45-7 loss to Cypress Falls, piling up 603 yards of offense to end their seven-season postseason drought. They needed nearly every bit of that production as Cy-Fair erased a 21-7 halftime deficit and kept the pressure on with two successful onside kicks and a kickoff return for a touchdown. Langham Creek recovered the final onside attempt with 26 seconds remaining to secure its berth and eliminate the Bobcats.

The result completed the District 16-6A playoff field, with the Lobos joining Cy Falls, Cy Lakes and Cy Woods. Langham Creek and Cy Falls will compete in Division II, while Cypress Lakes and Cypress Woods will enter Division I. The Lobos close the regular season against Cy Creek with a share of the district title still within reach.

In the win over Cy-Fair, senior quarterback Jace Williams had a huge performance. He completed 15-of-19 passes (78.9%) for 249 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 244 yards and four scores on 21 carries.

Montgomery sets up district title showdown

Montgomery and Huntsville left no doubt about what they will be playing for this week. The Bears beat Porter 42-0 on Saturday, while the Hornets rolled past Splendora 52-0 on Friday, setting up a meeting for the District 9-5A Division II championship.

Both teams enter the regular-season finale with 6-0 district records, with the winner taking the No. 1 playoff seed and the loser settling for No. 2. Montgomery (9-0) also has an unbeaten regular season within reach after allowing just two points over its past three games. The Bears' defense has not allowed any points in 18 consecutive quarters and has three shutouts over the past four games. Huntsville (7-2) has won seven straight since opening with losses to Brenham and A&M Consolidated.

The district's other two playoff teams, Lake Creek and West Fork, will also meet in their finale, with the No. 3 seed at stake.

During the win over Porter, Montgomery quarterback Cason Irwin completed 8-of-11 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns. Luke Piro had two touchdown catches, and Adrian Gonzalez had 10 carries for 52 yards and a score on the ground.

Cypress Park ends district drought

Cypress Park's 37-21 victory over George Ranch marked its first district win since beating Langham Creek in the 2021 regular-season finale. The Tigers had endured four consecutive winless district campaigns and lost their first five league games this season.

They scored more points against George Ranch than in those first five district games combined: 37 compared with 23. Sophomore Basheel Ware led the breakthrough with 264 rushing yards and three touchdowns as Cy Park finished with 332 yards on the ground.

It was the program's second significant step forward under coach Donald Lawrence after ending a 43-game losing streak in September against Cypress Creek. Cy Park (2-7, 1-5) was already out of playoff contention, but its victory officially eliminated George Ranch.

Williams-Callis nears 10,000 yards

Landen Williams-Callis moved within 236 yards of 10,000 career rushing yards while helping Randle (9-0, 7-0) survive its toughest finish of the season Friday. The Texas commit rushed for 275 yards and three touchdowns in a 29-22 district victory over Angleton, breaking a 75-yard touchdown run in the final minute after the Wildcats tied the game.

His career total now stands at 9,764 yards, giving him a chance to reach five figures during Friday's regular-season finale at Friendswood. Williams-Callis has rushed for 2,270 yards this season, averaging 252.2 per game, and has exceeded 100 yards in 26 consecutive games. He needs another 1,469 yards to surpass Kenneth Hall's Houston-area career record of 11,232 and 1,619 to move past Kaegan Ash's state record of 11,382.

At his current season average, surpassing Ash would require seven more games – the regular-season finale and a postseason run through the state championship game. Randle's victory also secured at least a share of the District 11-5A Division I championship, with the outright title available for the taking against Friendswood.
