Iowa enters the matchup with a 2-0 record after opening the season with convincing victories over Towson and Eastern Illinois. The Hawkeyes defeated Eastern Illinois 80-39 on Thursday, with freshman McKenna Woliczko leading the way with a career-high 22 points. Head coach Jan Jensen has her team playing well on both ends of the floor, particularly on the glass, where Iowa has outrebounded its first two opponents by a combined 44 rebounds. The Hawkeyes will face a much tougher challenge against UConn as they look to secure an early signature victory over one of the nation’s premier programs.
UConn enters Sunday’s contest at 1-1 after suffering a surprising 77-66 loss to No. 5 Michigan on Thursday, snapping the Huskies’ 39-game regular-season winning streak. Freshman Jovana Popovic led UConn with 25 points in the defeat, while reigning National Player of the Year Sarah Strong added 13 points. Geno Auriemma’s team will look to bounce back in front of its home crowd against an Iowa squad it defeated 90-64 last December. Sunday’s matchup will also feature a special pregame ceremony honoring former UConn star Azzi Fudd, who will be inducted into the Huskies of Honor before tipoff at 2:00 PM ET on FS1.
This is a great college basketball matchup that you will not want to miss; make sure to tune in and catch all the action.
