Jaguars sign familiar face at DT after DaVon Hamilton injury

By November 2, 2026

The Jacksonville Jaguars are signing a familiar face at defensive tackle to bolster the depth of this position group.

The team announced on Monday that veteran Austin Johnson is being signed to the practice squad. To make room, long-snapper Jacob Bobenmoyer has been released with Ross Matiscik healthy.

Johnson was a second-round pick by Tennessee back in 2016. He joined the Jaguars during last year's training camp, signing with Jacksonville in early August. However, he carved out a rotational role, despite his late addition.

For the most part, he remained a regular contributor throughout the 2025 season, averaging just under 14 snaps per game — although there were a few games where Johnson was inactive.

He finished the year with two quarterback pressures and a sack. He graded out well against the run by PFF's metrics.

Johnson was a free agent this past offseason, but was not re-signed by the Jaguars.

This addition comes after DaVon Hamilton suffered an injury in Sunday's game. The Jaguars could also explore the trade market at this position before the Nov. 10 deadline.
