Lions try to turn page to Dolphins with Jack Campbell on their minds

By November 3, 2026

Lions linebacker Jack Campbell (46) tackles Packers running back Josh Jacobs (8) in the fourth quarter. Detroit Lions take on the Green Bay Packers on Oct. 25, 2026 at Ford Field in Detroit.

The Detroit Lions are trying to turn the page while keeping linebacker Jack Campbell in their thoughts.

The Lions are five days out from a game against the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 8. As Jack Campbell continues to trend in a positive direction, according to head coach Dan Campbell, the team has to regroup for a two-game road swing, including a trip to Munich, Germany, for a game against the New England Patriots on Nov. 15.

"The good news is he's improving," Dan Campbell said of Jack Campbell on Tuesday morning, Nov. 3, on the Costa & Jansen with Heather on 97.1 The Ticket.

"But we also got a job to do. This is what we're tasked with, and there's a reason why we go through all this stuff, you know, and it's to get to where we want to go collectively as a team, and you know, adversity comes in all shapes and sizes, and we've gotta overcome everything that finds our way.

"We've gotta reload, lock in."

Jack Campbell remains at a local hospital to "rest and recover" from what the team has called a neck injury.

"Preliminary indications are positive and out of respect for Jack and his family we will not share further information at this time," a team statement said Monday.

Detroit has already begun backfilling its linebacker depth, signing K.J. Britt from the New England Patriots' practice squad, Campbell announced on Tuesday. With the additional loss of rookie Jimmy Rolder, who's out for the season with a hamstring injury, Detroit has become shorthanded at the position in recent weeks. Veteran Devin White was placed on injured reserve with a broken forearm last month.

Still, Campbell believes the group is in good hands between Derrick Barnes, Trevor Nowaske and Malcolm Rodriguez, noting, "We feel good with what we've got."

"All three of those guys can play football, and all three of them have versatility and have improved as we've gone here," Campbell said. "So, we've got a lot of trust in all three of those guys."

Coming out of the bye, the Lions picked up huge divisional home wins over the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers to extend their winning streak to three games, their longest since a four-game win streak from Weeks 2-5 last season.

Detroit has a chance to match that streak with a victory over the Dolphins, whose 1-6 record is a bit misleading; Miami has been a tough out in recent weeks and picked up its first win against the New York Jets, 28-25, on Oct. 25 before giving the Patriots a run for their money in a 24-19 loss this past Sunday.

"This Miami team, it's a hungry team, man. They play hard," Campbell said. "They play hard, and everybody they've played, they've gave fits to. They've had a chance to win these games. So, we know what we're about to face here."

Lions players have an off day on Tuesday before returning to practice from Wednesday to Friday. Campbell said players need to be in the right headspace when they step back out onto the practice field, not just for team performance, but for personal safety.

"Once you know that (Jack Campbell is improving), then you've gotta move on for yourself, too, in that moment," Campbell said. "Because if you let things wander and you drift and you worry a little, and then you're trying to play or prepare, that's when bad things can happen to you, because you're not all in on what you need to be doing."

Campbell expects the team to miss several injured players when it returns to practice on Wednesday. The Lions did not have a single player from the active roster ruled out before either of their last two games.

Cornerback D.J. Reed (hip), center Cade Mays (ankle), edge defender DJ Wonnum (concussion protocol), safety Brian Branch (concussion protocol) and running back Jacob Saylors (neck) are all expected to miss at least a day or two of practice.

"That's kind of where we're at. We did, we took a little bit of a hit here. But we knew it was coming," Campbell said. "I mean, it was fortunate we've gotten this far. So, that's the good news. We actually got a little bit further this time.

"And we'll adjust. We got plenty of guys, we got football players, and we'll adjust."
