The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Rawalpindi has arrested a suspect and registered a case against two accused in a financial fraud involving fake bank transaction receipts.
The arrest followed swift action by Director General NCCIA Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi on a complaint received through his e-Katchehri. According to the agency, a citizen was defrauded of Rs2,396,600 in the name of chicken supply.
The main suspect ran a shop under the name “Awan Chicken” in Phase 8 of a private housing society in Rawalpindi. The suspects are accused of preparing and using forged and edited bank transaction receipts.
The second suspect allegedly created the fake receipts and sent them to the chicken supplier through WhatsApp. The receipts gave the impression that payments had been made, and the supplier was deceived into delivering goods.
The NCCIA inquiry recovered the WhatsApp conversations and the alleged fake receipts. Technical analysis of their mobile phones provided key evidence of the cyber fraud. A review of business accounts confirmed that Rs2,396,600 remained unpaid.
The NCCIA has registered a case under various sections of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and the Pakistan Penal Code. The agency said more people may be involved in the fraud, and further investigation is under way.
