Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Matt Rhule met reporters on Monday in Lincoln with a 17-10 loss to the Washington Huskies behind him and a Friday trip to the Illinois Fighting Illini ahead. The session covered turnovers, play calling and a coaching move to the press box, but the answer that traveled furthest concerned one of his children and what happened to her after Saturday’s game.
“A guy walked up to my 13-year-old daughter and was like, ‘FU and F your dad.’ I’m not going to keep coaching if it means my kids grow up screwed up. I’m not going to see my daughter shook… I’m not coaching for the guy that attacked my daughter, I’m coaching for the people in the boat. I said to my daughter, ‘If daddy’s gotta retire, if I have [to] retire because I don’t want you guys growing up in that environment…'” Rhule said at his Monday news conference.

Where Matt Rhule’s comments leave his future at Nebraska
“We’re going to keep fighting until the day they tell me to leave. I’m not leaving. I’m not quitting,” Rhule told reporters.
The retirement line came as a condition a father set for himself, and Rhule paired with a flat statement that he is staying.
Anyone treating Monday as a resignation threat has only heard half of what he said.
Nebraska led 7-3 with 1:37 left on Saturday before Washington scored touchdowns on a 25-yard pass and a 48-yard interception return. KETV’s Noah Sacco posted video of fans throwing objects at the final whistle. The Cornhuskers are now 5-3 after losses to the Indiana Hoosiers, Oregon Ducks and Washington by a combined 13 points.
FINAL: Washington – 17, Nebraska – 10
Another 4th quarter. Another disaster. Washington scores 14 in the final 90 seconds.
Fans throwing objects on the field in the end. Ugly, ugly scene.

Three close losses explain a frustrated stadium and do nothing to explain a grown man cursing at a 13-year-old, and Rhule put the people who would do that outside the group he says he works for.
“I’m only worried about Friday,” Rhule said ahead of the 8 p.m. ET kickoff at Illinois.
