Pakistan has started procuring liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the winter season, inviting international suppliers to bid for two shipments scheduled for December 2026 and January 2027. Each cargo is estimated to cost around $100 million at current market prices as the country prepares for higher gas demand during the colder months.
Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL), the state-owned company responsible for LNG procurement, is seeking two shipments on a Delivered Ex-Ship (DES) basis at Port Qasim, Karachi. According to the tender notice, the first cargo is scheduled to arrive between December 14 and 16, 2026, while the second is expected between January 9 and 11, 2027. Each shipment will contain approximately 140,000 cubic meters of LNG, with a tolerance of plus or minus 5 percent.
The procurement comes as household gas consumption is expected to increase due to winter heating requirements, while spot LNG prices are approaching their highest levels since 2022. The two shipments could cost Pakistan around $200 million combined, although the final amount will depend on bids submitted by suppliers and the agreed procurement terms.
