Prince William and Prince George are travelling abroad to support their favourite football team.

The Prince of Wales is a long-time Aston Villa fan, and always animatedly cheers on the team when he gets the chance to attend a game in person. And it seems the royal had whisked his eldest son away on his half-term break from Eaton College to catch the team's away match in Barcelona on 3 November.

The royals are set to make a surprise appearance at Aston Villa's UEFA Champions League showdown against FC Barcelona at the Spotify Camp Nou in Barcelona tonight.

Ahead of the match, FC Barcelona welcomed William and George to the stadium, sharing a photo of William who looked smart in a navy blazer and crewneck sweater underneath.

"FC Barcelona is honoured to welcome His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and His Royal Highness Prince George to the Spotify Camp Nou," the post read.

"Thank you for joining us for a special evening of Champions League football featuring your beloved Aston Villa."

The royals had the perfect spot to cheer on Aston Villa.

William previously opened up about his son's football allegiance during an impromptu meet-and-greet with Aston Villa fans at a Wetherspoons in Birmingham last year.

According to Villa fan Darren Johnson, William explained: "George is a Villa fan, and we asked about the rest of the children. He said he wouldn't force a football team onto them as long as it wasn't Chelsea because all the people around him are Chelsea fans."

William's lifelong support of Aston Villa

William opened up about his on the Graham Norton Show earlier this month.

"Some childhood friends of mine got me into Aston Villa, clearly thinking they'd get some free tickets in later life. I think it's probably worked," the royal told host Graham Norton.

The royal previously explained in a 2015 with the BBC’s Gary Lineker that while many of his school friends went for Manchester United or Chelsea, he "wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments."

"Aston Villa’s always had a great history. I have got friends of mine who support Aston Villa and one of the first FA Cup games I went to was Bolton v Aston Villa back in 2000… It was fantastic; I sat with all the fans with my red beanie on, and I was sat with all the Brummie fans and had a great time. It was the atmosphere, the camaraderie, and I really felt that there was something I could connect with."
