Your Electricity Bill May Rise Again as Power Firms Demand Rs23 Billion More

By November 6, 2026

Power distribution companies have asked the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to allow them to recover an additional Rs23.33 billion from electricity consumers under the quarterly adjustment mechanism. The request raises the possibility of a further increase in power bills.

According to media reports, the petition seeks adjustment of costs for the third quarter, covering July to September 2026. NEPRA will make the final decision on how much the per-unit electricity tariff will rise.

The companies have proposed recovering Rs38.92 billion in capacity charges and Rs5.597 billion in operations and maintenance costs. The petition also includes a reduction of Rs29.25 billion due to the impact of the incremental package.

After this deduction, the net amount sought from consumers is Rs23.33 billion. According to the petition, the proposed adjustment will apply to electricity consumers across the country, including those in Karachi. K-Electric consumers will also be affected.

NEPRA will hold a hearing on the petition on November 17, after which it will announce its final decision on the increase.
