The Philadelphia 76ers have started the season in magnificent style, winning seven of their first eight games.
The latest of those victories came against the Chicago Bulls on Monday night, when the Sixers stepped it up in the second half again.
Jaylen Brown arguably had his best game yet with the 76ers, but he didn’t seem fully satisfied with how his side performed against the Bulls.
Jaylen Brown issues warning to Philadelphia 76ers teammates
The 76ers have shown the impressive trait of stepping it up late in games after slow starts.
In fact, in five of their seven wins so far this season, the Sixers weren’t great in the first half but showed their class by going up a level after the break to secure those victories.
That is undoubtedly a great trait to have, but Brown has warned his teammates that this could come back to bite them in tougher games.
The former Boston Celtics star made it clear that he doesn’t like these slow starts and urged his teammates to be at it from the first whistle.
When a reporter asked Brown if the ability to flip the switch in second halves gives the Sixers confidence, he replied: “No. I don’t like that we have that.
“It’s good that we have shown the potential, but we’ve got to keep that switch on. It doesn’t work like that, where you just flip the switch and catch up to it. It can bite us against a better team, or on a night that we’re not being as crisp on offence.
“So, there can’t be a switch just because we’re playing a lesser opponent or just because whatever the case may be. We have got to make sure that mentality is from the beginning to the end. Can’t skip any steps.”
Brown is spot on. The Sixers’ ability to turn games on their head in the second half is definitely impressive, but they can’t rely on that in every game.
The focus has to be on dominating the first and second quarters just as well as they do in the fourth. If they do that, they will become even bigger favourites to make the NBA Finals this year.
