How to save battery on your iPhone

Small settings add up to a noticeably longer day. These apply to recent versions of iOS; menu names can vary slightly.
1. Use Low Power Mode
Look in Settings > Battery for Low Power Mode. It reduces background activity and some visual effects. Switch it on when the battery gets low, or earlier on a long day.
2. Lower the screen’s appetite
- Reduce brightness, or turn on Auto-Brightness in Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size.
- Set Auto-Lock to a shorter time in Settings > Display & Brightness.
- On models with an OLED screen, Dark Mode can help a little, because dark pixels use less power.
3. Limit background refresh
In Settings > General, look for Background App Refresh and switch it off for apps that do not need to update when closed.
4. Check Location Services
In Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, change apps that use location all the time to While Using or Never.
5. Find what uses the most
Settings > Battery shows usage by app. If one app is far above the rest, update it, limit it or delete it.
6. Turn off what you do not use
Switch off Bluetooth, AirDrop and Wi-Fi when you do not need them. Use Wi-Fi in place of mobile data when you can.
7. Charge smartly
Turn on Optimized Battery Charging in Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging, which learns your routine to reduce time spent at full charge. See does fast charging damage your battery?.
8. Check battery health
In the same Battery Health & Charging screen, look at Maximum Capacity. If it is low and the phone dies early, a battery replacement may be the real fix. More in how to check your phone’s battery health.
