There are always controversial call in games, Notre Dame’s 31-24 upset over Miami was no different.
Late in the contest, with the Hurricanes trailing by a touchdown, tight end Elijah Loftin caught the ball, got a foot inbounds, but Irish safety Luke Talich knocked the ball out of his hands as he couldn’t complete the catch. After a review, it was ruled incomplete, a call that should be argued, but Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal had an issue with it.
He was angry during his postgame interview, as he felt like the referees would make a call that went Notre Dame’s way due to being at home. It wasn’t a catch though, Loftin did not complete the process, and the ruling was correct.

Cristobal has every right to be angry, but when the call is correct, he doesn’t really have an argument. Still a great game played by Miami, would shouldn’t drop far in the rankings after taking their first loss of the 2026 season.
There is no one who wanted this more than our head coach! And he is not happy about this outcome and will not rest until Miami has #6,7,8…stay with us it’s coming… pic.twitter.com/ZC7ZkHZ6AF
