Sixers star LeBron James reveals what keeps him going in year No. 24

By November 6, 2026

DETROIT — The Philadelphia 76ers are 8-1 to begin the season as they look to continue growing as a group. They have come up with wins over the defending champion New York Knicks twice, a win over the Detroit Pistons on the road, and a win over Eastern Conference finalist Cleveland Cavaliers as they begin to establish dominance.

LeBron James, the big offseason addition, continues to make an impact on the court and have an influence on the Sixers. He isn't averaging big numbers, but in year No. 24, does anybody really expect James to continue to dominate games in terms of scoring the ball? Well, maybe some do, but the 41 year old is averaging 15.7 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.4 assists, which is still extremely impressive at his age.

In order to be as great as James has been throughout his brilliant career, it means doing the little things. The things that nobody cares to do or cares to see. The mundane things such as getting up, getting to the gym, taking care of your body, making sure he is at the top of your game. These are the things that James has mastered and why he keeps going.

"I mean, it's a process for me," James explained. "I'm in love with the process more than the results. So, that's what gets me up, that's what gets me going, keeps me going. So I'm able to still play the game at this level and play a game that I love because, for me, it's always been about the process."

In a league that is only getting younger and more athletic, James is still keeping up. He is still a threat on a nightly basis and be a player who is at the top of the scouting report for a lot of teams. It's all of those mundane things that allows him to be the player that he is. He's watching film, living in the gym, and continuing to be great. It may sound boring to do all of those things, but to be as brilliant as James has been in his career, one has to do those things.

"I mean, obviously it's incredible, right?" added coach Nick Nurse. "That he's in his 24th season, but I've only been around him here for a little while, but what I do see is incredible preparation, and I mean incredible…I would say that's what he credits that to, and I assume that's what he's done his whole life. He spends a lot of time getting himself ready to go and taking care of himself and all that kind of stuff. So, that's a big credit—I'm sure he would credit that, and it's a big credit to him."
